Fenland’s own Poet Laureate came into school this term to lead a poetry workshop.

Three students, who are budding poets themselves, invited Leanne Moden into school and were delighted when she arrived on December 3rd and gave a poetry workshop during period 4.

Year 10 students Molly-Mae Taylor, Bethany Ellerby and Daniel Putterill were also thrilled to have a chat with the award winning poet after the visit.

Afterwards Molly-Mae (Year 10) said: “ The workshop was very interesting and fun. It’s really beneficial for those students who wish to work in Poetry. We gained a lot from the workshop, and I hope we can do the same in the future.”

The poet said she thoroughly enjoyed inspiring the students and is hoping to return in February to run a prose workshop

The Fenland Poet Laureate award is run by Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire and creative arts organisation Atelier East (working in partnership with Fen Speak and the Wisbech and Fenland Museum).

On winning the award Miss Moden said: “The award has opened so many doors for me, and allowed me to provide opportunities for many more Fenland Poets. It’s been a fantastic experience!”

The search is now on for the next Fenland Poet Laureate and there is an opportunity for those aged 16 and under to receive a poetry commendation.

The judges are looking for poems that represent and relate to the theme ‘Fenland’. The deadline for entries is January 31st and for more information and entry details visit here http://bit.ly/18uQCMf
