Students at Thomas Clarkson Academy are celebrating GCSE success across a whole range of subjects.
There were happy scenes at the academy this morning (August 20^th) as students were rewarded with good grades for all their hard work.
Overall, results across the whole range of GCSE and BTEC qualifications has improved compared to last year with students’ average point score also improving. The academy also met the government’s new floor target for Progress 8 (which measures progress each student makes from entry in Year 7).

Student Katrina Richards was the academy’s highest achieving student with 8As, 1B and 2Cs. Joseph Moore gained 1A*, 5As, 3Bs and 2Cs; Rachel Abu-Jaber is celebrating after collecting 3As, 5 Bs and 3Cs; Jack Clark was awarded 2As, 3Bs, 1C and 1 distinction* (BTEC) and Aleksander Schulz received 2A*s, 1A, 1B and 6Cs.

Principal Clare Claxton said: “As more of our students begin to believe they can achieve the highest grades, it is really heartening to see such a rise in students’ average point score across a range of qualifications. This is testament to the hard work of both staff and students.
“Alongside praise to the students I would like to publicly thank the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, for their efforts in helping students gain the best grades possible – everyone went ‘above and beyond’ and I cannot fault their commitment. I am so looking forward to September and the quest for even higher academic achievement in the forthcoming year.”

Katrina Richards said: “I am so surprised. I thought I might get Cs and a B would be good. I was sure I had failed two subjects but got As in them both.” Katrina will go on to study A Levels in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

Joseph Moore will be going on to study A Levels in Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths at Thomas Clarkson Academy. He said: “The results are what I was hoping for and are a combination of my hard work and the support from the teachers.”

Jack Clark was delighted with his results. He said: “I am quite shocked and happy that I have done so well. I worked hard and the teachers were also a great help.” Jack plans to study BTEC ICT.

Aleksander Schulz will be staying at the Academy to take A Levels in French, IT, Maths and Physics after achieving a great set of GSCE results. He said: “I am very excited and very happy and I have so many options now.”

Rachel Abu-Jaber said: “I am amazed, astounded, flabbergasted, surprised and ecstatic! I thought I would get terrible results as I panicked in the exams. I am so thankful.”

Year 10 student Charlotte Cameron took two GCSEs a year early and achieved an A in Science and a B in English Literature. Charlotte, who is World Kickboxing Champion and European Kickboxing Champion, said: “I am overwhelmed. The teachers were confident in us so I was confident in myself. I revised a lot and it paid off.”
