Year 7 students’ phenomenal netball success

Well done to our Year 7 netball team who have surpassed themselves to win competition after competition, including being the first TCA netball team ever invited to play in the School Games Championships.

Well done to our Year 7 netball team who have surpassed themselves to win competition after competition, including being the first TCA netball team ever invited to play in the School Games Championships.

Their team formed in September to take part in the Isle of Ely competition against Ely College, Neale Wade and Witchford Village College. Our team beat the others twice, remaining unbeaten to become Isle of Ely Champions.

They attended the District Qualifier, beating Witchford  7-6 and Ely College 13-6 to become District Champions and were invited to compete in the School Games Championships in St Ives, a first for TCA.

PE teacher Claire Thomas said: ‘It was such an amazing experience for them as the standard of netball was outstanding so the Thomas Clarkson girls got to play against the very best in Cambridgeshire. They got a real taste of elite sport - something that will inevitably improve their own game even further. They were a credit to the academy and once again played outstandingly. With their opponents being much tougher, unfortunately, we were not able to win the Championships however they beat local rivals Witchford Village College again 5-0.

‘Due to the team’s ongoing success they also won the KS3 Team of the Year award at this year’s Brooke Weston Trust sports awards.  Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the team’s success this season,  it has been nothing short of amazing! I look forward to working with them again next year and defending our Isle of Ely and District crowns. What an excellent achievement for them.’

The team comprises: Megan Allen, Tia Onslow, Chantelle Lott, Sharon Akinrefon, Chelsea Handley, Chantelle Lloyd, Tarryn Kirby, Sian Cundell, Kyia Holmes and Maisie Stratton.
