Students at Thomas Clarkson Academy took part in a conference led by international charity Free The Children where they learnt about global issues and how to make a change.

Free The Children’s mission is to create a world where all young people are free to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change.

The school’s Junior Leadership Team, anti-bullying ambassadors and members of the Session 6 group #bethechange took part in the event, led by Jacob Guberg from Free the Children.

Jacob spoke to the students about global issues and being a better global citizen.

Teacher Kaila Parker said: “He enthusiastically led the children in a creative and thought-provoking discussion on hunger, poverty, clean water, children’s rights and discrimination. Jacob is going to be staying in touch with TCA in the New Year to support us in our endeavours to ‘Redefine Possible’. ”

The students were inspired by what they heard. Angel Bows, Year 11, said: “It opened all our eyes to everything that’s going on in the world and made us want to do something about it.”

Ewen Neale, Year 9, said: “It made me want to make a change for all the problems in the world.”

Shannon Marks, Year 10, said: “I finally understand what I can do to make a change.”
