Hundreds of Year 6 pupils experienced life at Thomas Clarkson Academy as part of the Taster Days held last week.

Almost 340 students from local primary schools took part in the days held on October 5th and 6th, which were organised to help them make the important choice of which secondary school to opt for.

Almost 600 Year 6 and Year 5 parents also attended our Open Evening held on October 7th. They were able to have a tour of our building, speak to staff and students and each department had made a display or held an interactive session to give parents a flavour of the school.

Tania Wilkes, who looks after transitions at TCA said: “We were delighted to host 338 Year 6 students from all of our local primary schools for an activity day with our English, Maths and Science departments. The English department took the students back to Elizabethan times through the medium of Drama, while our Maths department took the students on a treasure trail investigating numbers.

“The Science department introduced the students to the Science lab and the students were able to use a bunsen burner whilst investigating glucose tests using Benedict’s solution.”

She added: “Both the students and our staff who ran the day had an amazing time and one student went home and told her mother that she now wanted to be a scientist as she had had such a good time here.”
