The TCA community remembered the holocaust victims and thought about the need to stand up for good during a series of activities last week.

‘Don’t Stand By’ was the theme of this years National Holocaust Memorial Day and the TCA history department held a series of events.

A large candle (made by Mrs Mackie) was erected in the centre of Eden and students were invited to place messages. During term time there were discussions centred around the genocide and Vice Principal Steve Erikson gave a series of assemblies about those people who did not stand by during the holocaust and came to the aid of others.

There were also display boards around the school and there was a showing of the film Defiance.

The TCA band also played a moving rendition of the Jewish national anthem Hatikva during assembly.

Head of history Lucy-Beth Heighton said: “As the holocaust was such a tragic event and still has much relevance to today we decided that rather than just remembering the victims for one day, we would spend the whole week looking at it and the message of ‘Don’t Stand By’.

“The message that the students have taken away this week is that if they stand back then the tormentors will still torment.”
