Transition Programme 2020/21
Thomas Clarkson Academy believes that it is imperative that Year 6 students have a positive move into Year 7. It is vital that they feel confident and equipped to make the transition into the Academy at the start of the academic year.
- To reassure Year 6 students about their transition to Thomas Clarkson Academy and to prepare them for academy life
- To support parents and provide them with all the information they need throughout the transition process
- To gather relevant information from all our feeder primary schools about each student joining Thomas Clarkson Academy in September.
We feel that in order to achieve a positive transition, parents should be fully informed about the process; therefore, we have put together a timetable of the process below.
|2nd March 2020|
|National Offer Day|
You will receive an email from your local authority with the offer of a place for your child(ren) or alternatively you can check online yourself within the application portal
Please contact Thomas Clarkson Academy to accept your child’s place - 01945 585237.
You can also accept your child’s place online via the Citizen Portal.
If you wish to decline your place you must do this in writing to your Local Authority, please also email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you applied for a place on paper, then your Local Authority are aiming for you to receive your confirmation letter on this date.
|Week Commencing 2nd March 2020|
|Welcome letter from TCA|
We will be sending out letters to all parents of year 6 children who have been offered places at TCA for September.
This will confirm your offer of a place with us and give you details of how to accept.

|Deadline for appeal application|
Final dates for appeal applications, please ensure you get the correct date for the local authority area you live in.
|Transition Team visits to primary schools|
The Transition team at TCA will be visiting all catchment primary schools to discuss all students who will be joining TCA that September. They will be handing out Stepping Up to TCA booklets (example: Stepping Up to TCA) which pupils will be asked to complete by July 11th, along with Parent Action packs.
|Invitation to Transition Evening and Days|
A letter will be sent to all parents who have accepted a place for their child at TCA inviting them to our Transition Evening and providing information about Transition Days.
This will also include other crucial information that will be required such as:

This letter will also let you know which Community and Tutor Group your child has been placed in for September.
Those families who live outside of the Waterlees area will be contacted by Cambridgeshire County Council with regards to school transport.
For those living within the Waterlees area, we will be sending letters regarding the bus service and information on how to apply for a bus pass. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all students will receive a bus pass.
|7th July 2020|
Parents and students will have the opportunity to find out more about life at TCA and meet their Raising Standards Leader (Head of Year 7) and tutors prior to starting in September.
|9th and 10th July 2020|
These transition days give students the opportunity to find their way around TCA, experience a variety of different academy subject lessons and make friends with their fellow year 7s.
Please ensure students return their Stepping Up booklet and Parent Action packs by July 10th.
|9th and 20th July 2019, 3pm - 5pm|
A range of uniform items will be available for new students to try on before parents place their orders.
|Additional transition days|
TCA aims to give every student a positive transition experience so they look forward to their start with us in September 2019. These additional transition days will be aimed at students who may find the transition process more challenging than others. We will discuss with primary schools which students may benefit from these additional days and contact parents/carers separately if we feel there is a need for their child to attend.
|Monday 7th September 2020|
|First day of term|
This is the first day of the new academic year.
Students should bring their PE kit with them in anticipation of their new timetable which will be issued to them at the start of the day.
|October 2020 - date TBC|
|Year 7 Tutor Evening|
This is an evening event for you and your child you come along and speak with their tutor to discuss how they are settling in to life at TCA.
|Year 7 Partners in Success Evening|
An opportunity for you to discuss with your child’s teachers their progress in Year 7.
|Year 7 Celebration Evening|
An evening to celebrate the achievements of our year 7s at the end of their first year at TCA.
